User Interface latency increases with complexity of model

The manual J data entry slows down drastically with increasing system complexity. For example, if I have a one-zone 7 room system and I want to add a new ceiling to a room it could take on the order of minutes (!) for the options associated with the ceiling to display. This makes what is a straightforward data entry task a very painful process.

We are pleased to announce that Cool Calc 2.0 is now available. It has been completely redesigned from the ground up on a lightning fast API architecture so no latency issues should be experienced moving forward.

Good morning,

Thank you for contacting us and for your patience.

Our current web-based version of Cool Calc mainly caters to block load calculations. Adding room-by-room functionality was a last-minute addition and was accomplished by iterating through block load calculations multiple times. That is why the application slows down substantially as multiple rooms are being added. We are working on a complete redesign behind the scenes that will optimize room-by-room and not require multiple calls to the server.

In addition, choosing a browser can also help with speed and stability.

At present, we encourage all of our users to use Chrome, FireFox or Safari. What happens is that when edits are being made at the header level within Step 2, and a user moves on to the next header, the application will display a spinning wheel icon and proceed to save those changes made to that particular section while adjusting load values on the top of the screen. We found that by trying to avoid using IE there would be an increase of speed. Additionally, are working on a complete redesign behind the scenes that will optimize calculations. This will be a part of the new version of our current offering that will be released soon.

We hope this is helpful.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Best,

Cool Calc.
